KING KONG ESCAPES!

Unfortunately, the audience COULDN’T escape or else they would have forfeit the admission fee. Might have been worth it – it was a 35 cent box office charge when we saw it, which, coincidentally, was probably what it cost to make the movie in the first place.

My dad took my brother Kevin and I to see this in 1967. It was playing in the Baker Theater at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He thought it was ridiculous but us kids found it neat because of the Kong Robot. When he later took us the see the original KING KONG at that same theater, he was horrified when Kevin and I declared that the better film of the two was KING KONG ESCAPES!

The robot scenes in the Arctic, Kong’s fight with the robot, and the death of the villainous Dr. Who (the unmistakable voice of Paul Frees) are really the highlights.

Several years ago, I was knocked out to find that KKE eventually made it onto DVD and not only that, but it was sold as a set – the second film being KING KONG VS. GODZILLA.

Let’s give this one 6 limburgers on the cheese scale of 10. The poster art, though, gets a 9.
